Exploring dual energy - Gazifère

What is dual energy?

Dual energy couples electricity and natural gas to heat your home. Dual energy enables you to use the right energy at the right time and at the best cost.

Who is dual energy for?

Electricity and natural gas dual energy is for our residential customers who have natural gas central heating and need to replace their appliances or want to add a heat pump.

Why are we proposing dual energy?

Dual energy is part of the range of solutions that will enable the economy to be decarbonized more quickly, while limiting the impact on electricity needs.

The advantages

Benefit from dual energy

The company will be offering dual energy to its residential customers. If you are interested in taking part in this initiative, we invite you to send an email to that effect to info@gazifere.com

We will inform you as soon as the dual energy offer is available. It is important that you not begin any work before that.

For our commercial clients, visit the Ecoperformance webpage Programme ÉcoPerformance | Innovation et transition énergétiques (gouv.qc.ca) or contact one of our representatives at the following address: ddm@gazifere.com. Our representatives will be sure to direct you.

FAQ

Would you like to learn more about the dual energy offer?
Here are answers to your questions!

Are all customers eligible for dual energy?

Initially, the Electricity and Natural Gas Dual Energy solution is for Gazifère residential customers with a natural gas fueled forced air or hot water central heating system.

To be eligible for the dual energy offer[1], Gazifère customers must purchase and install equipment required for a dual energy system.

Will I be entitled to grants to help with my switch to dual energy?

Yes, there are grants to help reduce your cost of purchasing and installing your new electrical equipment.

Right now, Gazifère is working on setting up a turnkey approach to make it easy for you to tap into those grants.

I have an electrical heating system. Can I take advantage of this offer?

No. This offer is not for Hydro-Québec customers who heat with electricity. Similarly, it is not for Gazifère customers who use natural gas only to heat their water or to power peripheral equipment.

If I opt for a dual energy heating system, will I have to replace my natural gas water heater?

Customers who opt for dual energy must agree to consider the possibility of installing a water heating system that runs on electricity only at the end of the useful life of their existing natural gas water heater.

Is there a specific rate for electricity and natural gas dual energy?

Residential customers who opt for the electricity and natural gas dual energy solution will get the Hydro-Québec DT rate.

The rate for natural gas used by residential customers will remain the same as before the installation of the dual energy solution.

Why are you suggesting your customers move to dual energy?

Moving to dual energy is an efficient way to help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Hydro-Québec and Gazifère have been working hand in hand to achieve the goal of reducing natural gas consumption by just over 70% in support of Quebec’s GHG reduction goal.

Did you know? Heating buildings is a non-negligible source of GHG, and therefore has a direct impact on climate change. Dual energy is a solution that helps you reduce your impact.

Why not opt for a solution aimed at converting my natural gas heating system to exclusively electric?

By opting for dual energy, you optimize your way of consuming energy by focusing on the complementarity of natural gas and electricity. Converting your natural gas heating system to one that runs exclusively on electricity will deprive you of clear benefits (comfort, competitive natural gas rates, reliability, etc.), and will add to the challenges of meeting the demand for electricity during peak periods.

Using electricity to heat buildings places significant pressure on the Hydro-Québec system during peak periods in the winter. Dual energy is an excellent way to maximize the amount of electricity used to heat buildings while limiting the impact during peak periods. Reducing the demand for electricity during those specific periods optimizes the system’s operation when it is in greatest demand, reducing necessary investments, and therefore higher electricity rates, and avoiding power outages.
